Welcome! I'm Kate.

About Kate Morris

Also known as the founder of Among the Trees Counseling & Wellness, South Carolina native, Vermont transplant, and most likely to pick a green slope (or skip the skiing altogether in favor of a maple creemee).

Before founding Among The Trees, I worked in a variety of therapeutic roles with people at every life stage. I've provided spiritual care and counseling in emergency and end-of-life situations, supported adolescents and adults struggling with body image issues, eating disorders, and trauma, unpacked the life lessons in a Taylor Swift album, and come up with creative ways to help clients smash their scales.

I consider it a tremendous privilege to walk alongside clients on their paths to create rich, meaningful lives.

She/her

You'll probably hear me talk a lot about...

a joyful, free relationship with food

I became a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor in 2018, and am passionate about finding a relationship with food that enriches your life. Having recovered from an eating disorder myself, I  believe full recovery is possible.

body acceptance and appreciation

I practice from a Health At Every Size® perspective, meaning I believe in cultivating a relationship with our bodies that is rooted in respect, acceptance, and trust.

living a values-driven life

I lean on the framework of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy in my work, which allows for the possibility of accepting what is beyond one's control, being present in the moment, and committing to actions aligned with personal values to improve overall well-being.

"Among the trees" by mary oliver

When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.

I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,

but walk slowly, and bow often.

and never hurry through the world,

Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”

The light flows from their branches.

And they call again, “It's simple,” they say,
“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy,

to be filled with light, and to shine."

I chose the name Among the Trees for my counseling practice after my favorite poem from Mary Oliver - a poem that perfectly captures not only the groundedness that I feel when in nature, but also the transformation that I wish for all of my clients. It is a transformation from disconnection, doubt, and defeat to peace, ease, confidence, and connection. To support that transformation, and to help my clients build lives that feel at once vibrant and calm, full and light - that is the goal of this work and the gift of recovery.
